Garage Door Motor Repair
One of the most common garage door repairs is replacement of motors. This can be a big expense, but it will save you time and money in the long run by preventing continuous breakdowns. We will discuss what types of motor is best for your door plus what you should watch out for when we perform a garage door motor repair.
Garage door motor repairs are usually caused by a number of key problems. Garage doors are constantly exposed to the elements so they wear out over time due to general use and exposure. Worn-out components can be replaced easily, but it's important not to replace them with parts that don't fit or aren’t rated for your door type.
Loose torsion springs cause most garage door motor repairs in overhead sectional garage doors. If the spring is not doing its job properly (lifting 90% of the door) it puts undue stress on the motor.
Garage door motor repairs are also caused by a lack of lubrication on the rollers, tracks and hinges or general misuse. Garage doors should be lubricated every year or so to ensure smooth operation that lasts longer into the future.
If you have an older garage door motor/opener that hasn’t been serviced for more than five years, it is probably time for a replacement or a service. We strongly recommend we come out and do a service on your garage door every 18 months to reduce future repairs to avoid a garage door motor repair in the first place.
